THE POTTER/TIOGA MAPLE PRODUCER
ASSOCIATION
Was organized in May of 1963. The first official meeting was held
in Westfield on May 15, 1963.The purpose of this organization
was to promote the maple syrup
industry in North
Central Pennsylvania
and to improve the
quality of maple products..
Eighteen sugar makers from Potter and Tioga
counties became the Charter Members of
the organization.
The association
is financed mostly
through the sale of syrup containers to it’s members,
good deal for both.
We are also members of the
Pennsylvania
Maple Syrup Producers Council, The North American Maple Syrup Council
and the International Maple Syrup Institute.
The association
participates in the Potter/ Tioga Maple
Festival in
Coudersport
,
Pa.
Every year in the spring, with
a sales tent , also a program to select a Maple Sweetheart, also an
alternate sweetheart . All school
districts in the two counties are encouraged
to send candidates for this competition
The program was started in
1967. The local Sweetheart chosen
competes for the State Maple
Sweetheart Title
We also participate at the
Pennsylvania Farm Show in
Harrisburg, Pa. and Ag
Progress Days at
Rock Springs
with sales booths and education
information.
In 2001 we solicited recipes from
the members of the Potter/ Tioga association
and got a cookbook printed. The name of our cookbook is “MAPLE
MEMORIES” This book not only
contains recipes , but also
the history of the
Association, A list of Maple
Sweethearts over the years and
information about making syrup .
Our newest endeavor is the Maple
Weekend: Hope to see you there. We
had the first Maple Weekend tour in 2005 . This
will be our 4th Maple Weekend Open House March 29
and 30th 2008.
